Ice Auger Accessories
 Carry a small kit of ice auger accessories and spare parts including spare blades and a wrench to change them out. Keep your blades razor sharp. I've found that the easiest way to keep your blades sharp is to use an auger sharpener. Some augers include this when you purchase the unit. They keep the correct angle on the blade edge, and take just a few seconds on each cutting surface, every few trips. Be careful though! Don't cut yourself, as that can ruin your day.
Several ice auger accessories are available from a variety of sources, to help you get the most out of it and help it last. Accessories range from power head covers to full carriers or haulers, blade sharpening tools, spare blade sets, shaft extensions, blade covers, etc. I have included some illustrations, for clarification purposes. Here are some ideas to help keep it in perfect condition, so that it lasts a very long time. (Note: the particular model you choose, may include some of these items, like a blade cover and possibly a sharpener).
Besides easy starting, keeping your blades extremely sharp is the most important factor in keeping your auger in tip-top shape. A spare set of blades is imperative. Keeping the blades covered is very important. Auger blades are very sharp, and should remain covered when not in use, like a hunting knife should be sheathed. Covers, or guards protect people, but also other equipment, as well as the auger blades themselves.

Although they are not really ice auger accessories, a few spare parts are important to have with you. A new spark plug, and tool to replace it, a spare gas cap, a set of replacement blades, and tools necessary to swap out the old ones.
