Ice Auger Accessories

Ice Auger tips...
Carry a small kit of ice auger accessories and spare parts including spare blades and a wrench to change them out.
Keep your blades razor sharp. I've found that the easiest way to keep your blades sharp is to use an auger sharpener. Some augers include this when you purchase the unit. They keep the correct angle on the blade edge, and take just a few seconds on each cutting surface, every few trips. Be careful though! Don't cut yourself, as that can ruin your day.
Keep the center tip sharp as well. If it won't cut, the blades won't cut.
Keep the blades covered when not in use, and don't stand your auger up in a shallow hole in the ice. Yanking your auger in and out of the ice to punch another hole or two can bend the blade mount.
If the blade mount gets bent, it will never cut the same, even if you have it straightened. Get in the habit of lying it down, where the muffler is clear of everything, and putting your blade guard on. It takes 15 seconds and your auger will last much longer.

Ice Auger Accessories Introduction...
Several ice auger accessories are available from a variety of sources, to help you get the most out of it and help it last.
Accessories range from power head covers to full carriers or haulers, blade sharpening tools, spare blade sets, shaft extensions, blade covers, etc. I have included some illustrations, for clarification purposes.
Here are some ideas to help keep it in perfect condition, so that it lasts a very long time. (Note: the particular model you choose, may include some of these items, like a blade cover and possibly a sharpener).
Besides easy starting, keeping your blades extremely sharp is the most important factor in keeping your auger in tip-top shape. A spare set of blades is imperative.
Keeping the blades covered is very important. Auger blades are very sharp, and should remain covered when not in use, like a hunting knife should be sheathed. Covers, or guards protect people, but also other equipment, as well as the auger blades themselves.
ReadyRig is one of several companies offering ice auger accessories. They have come out with a line of power head covers designed for a custom fit for all newer models of StrikeMaster® brand power ice augers.
Tough durable 600D polyester construction helps protect the ice drill power head from snow, freezing rain, dirt and grime. Perfect for augers transported on ATVs, snowmobile, on top of sleds or in the back of pick-ups.
They help contain gas and oil fumes while the auger is in transit or being stored. Includes self-healing zippers and sewn-in reflective safety beading for high visibility in low light conditions.
Augers & Accessories from Cabela's
Auger carriers, or haulers, like this Auger Hauler from Cabela's are very useful.
They are designed to protect your vehicle and gear from sharp blades and oil residues, as well as protect your auger itself, keeping it clean and unscratched.
This one is crafted of lasting polyester with a polyester-reinforced liner. Nylon web handles placed for perfect auger balance for easy carry.
Storage pocket for spark plugs, wrenches, spare blades, gas caps, and other necessities. Heavy-duty full-length zipper. Fits all Power Ice augers with blades up to 10" in diameter.
Although they are not really ice auger accessories, a few spare parts are important to have with you. A new spark plug, and tool to replace it, a spare gas cap, a set of replacement blades, and tools necessary to swap out the old ones.
